HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS I (HSV)-IGG (Rs.300/-)
Herpes simplex virus (HSV) is a member of the Herpesviridae family, of which two types are known: type 1 (HSV-1) and type-2 (HSV-2) which present slight antigenic differences. The assay of specific IgG is important to establish the serological state of the patient, diagnosis of neonatal infection and encephalitis caused by HSV. Moreover, the presence of specific IgG indicates viral activity in progress, although it is not oossible to distinguish between primary infection and reactivation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Herpes Simplex Virus - 1 (HSV - 1) is responsible for causing herpes infection. IgG test is a blood (serology) test that determines the presence of IgG antibodies against HSV - 1 in the body. It also helps determine the presence of past exposure to the virus.
A blood sample is used for the test and is drawn intravenously from the vein. Special preparations are not required before this test.
You can locate our nearest collection center on Google Maps. The test can also be availed at your home by opting for our home collection service while booking this test.
You might feel a pricking-like or stinging sensation while the needle is inserted for drawing blood. Once the blood sample has been drawn, the respective area on the skin can sometimes feel irritated or swollen or can turn reddish.
Once the body is exposed to antigens, i.e., bacteria or viruses, it produces antibodies in response to the exposure. The antibodies then help neutralize the pathogens.
The results of the test are construed in three ways: positive, negative, or equivocal. A positive result indicates the presence of IgG antibodies against the HSV - 1 that may be indicative of past infection. A negative result indicates the absence of IgG antibodies against the HSV - 1 that might be due to no exposure.
Herpes infection is caused by two types of HSV, namely: HSV-1 and HSV-2. HSV-1 is often transmitted orally by coming in personal contact with the sores or saliva of an infected individual or surfaces around their mouth. The virus is also transmitted via oral-genital contact causing genital herpes infection. HSV-2 is often transmitted sexually by coming in personal contact with the genital or anal surfaces, skin, sores, or fluids of an infected individual. Rarely, HSV-1 and 2 exhibit mother-to-child mode of transmission during pregnancy, which leads to congenital infection, or during delivery, which causes neonatal herpes. Patients with HSV-1 or 2 infection that are asymptomatic, that is without any symptoms, can spread the virus and infected individuals can transmit the infection for nearly a week before the appearance of rashes.
At present, no vaccine has been developed that can prevent Herpes infection. Nevertheless, a few preventive measures can be implemented, such as Avoiding any oral or sexual contact with those suspected with HSV infection Avoiding any contact with things or objects that are likely to be contaminated with body fluids of an infected person and those suspected with Herpes infection
HSVs are of two types: HSV 1 (HSV -1) and HSV 2 (HSV -2) HSV - 1 is the main causative agent of blisters or cold sores around the mouth, called oral herpes. It is mostly contracted during childhood and can also spread to the genitals. HSV - 2 is the main causative agent of blisters or sores in the genital area, called genital herpes. The virus spreads through sexual contact and can also spread to the mouth.
